Flip Review

Flip Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Flip (formely Flipgrid) is a free web-based tool and mobile app offered through Microsoft. This tool allows users to create and share videos with others. Flip is great for creating a space where students can share ideas or respond to a particular discussion topic created by the teacher. As their site mentions, in the classroom, Flip is a tool that does the following:

- Encourage peer-to-peer learning and discussion through likes and comments

- Provide a safe space for social emotional development and sharing

- Build confidence by celebrating student achievements and creativity.

In my school, Flip is the platform that our daily announcements are shared through. Flip is a great way to share videos you create with an entire selection of students. Whether it be your class, or the entire student body. A really great feature of Flip is that you don't necessarily have to record your own videos, you can also upload already recorded videos. For instance, during bookfair season, I will share with the entire school the Scholastic book trailers on YouTube to get the students excited about the upcoming bookfair.

Additionally, Flip is used as our morning announcement platform. Each morning different teachers will post snippets of a video which contributes to the morning announcement. For example, one class would have recorded and sung the Pledge of Allegiance, while another teacher will have a video in the morning announcements that shares the lunch for the day, the weather, etc. It really is a great way to build a stronger sense of community.

Flip is not only great for classroom collaboration and sharing messages with the entire student body, but it's also great for professional developments as well!
